A Long Term Care Centre Built to House Tenants in Edmonton.

Synergy Projects completed the original upgrade and renovation of the operating 30-year-old long term care facility. Synergy selected consultants and led the pre-construction and estimating phases. This project included extensive demolition and rebuild of public spaces, erection of new walls or activity space, offices and a smoke room, as well as replacement of all ceiling, floor and wall finishes while the critical care facility operated continuously. Resident room work encompassed renovation of ceilings, lighting, flooring, bathroom fixtures and millwork and wall finishes, as well as mechanical and electrical system upgrades in rooms and corridors. Both phases were completed on schedule and within budget.

Synergy also acted as CM for the installation of a new elevator in the Long Term Care Centre in 2015 and a new 2,500 sq.ft. building addition and 4,500 sq.ft. kitchen and dining hall in 2018. Synergy worked closely with the health board to achieve the kitchen expansion and addition while staying operational during all construction phases. The 2 storey addition included dry storage, meeting rooms and a lower level. New commercial kitchen equipment and two large walk-in coolers were brought in to facilitate the kitchen, which tripled in size. The project included demolition, new ceiling, new flooring, new walls, painting, millwork and storefront glazing.

Working in an active auxiliary hospital and maintaining air quality, health standards and minimizing noise and disruption to tenants were primary challenges. Inspectors visited regularly, and Synergy was commended on site safety procedures.
